Abstract: This study investigates the risks and implications associated with the use of outdated systems and unlicensed software at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research – Food Research Institute (CSIR-FRI) in Ghana. Using institutional assessments and qualitative analysis, the study identifies critical vulnerabilities in IT infrastructure, software compliance, and cybersecurity posture. The analysis reveals that outdated hardware, unsupported software, and non-compliant licensing practices expose the institute to significant operational, financial, reputational, and research risks.
