Abstract: The influence of the extent of parent education, economic factors and the role of restrictive practices in child feeding in Accra are studied. Data presented indicate difference between mothers in the pattern of child feeding, although there was a general tendency for educated mothers to feed their children on imported proprietary baby foods and on special foodstuffs such as eggs. Also noted was a general tendency to withhold important protein source foods - meat and fish from children for the reason that these foods caused various illnesses. However, there was no indication that taboos constituted a serious threat to child nutrition in the city
