dc.description.abstractMoist sawdust from Triplochiton scleroxylon, Terminalia ivorensis and Chlorophora excelsa was used for the storage of fresh tomatoes at three stages ripeness. The water saturation capacity of the sawdust of T. ivorensis and C. excelsa were comparable and less than that of T. scleroxylon . The rates of weight loss and colour development of tomatoes stored in T. ivorensis and T. scleroxylon were significantly slower than C. excelsa . High bacterial and mould counts were found on fruits in C. excelsa. Moist sawdust of T. scleroxylon and T. ivorensis will extend the storage life of fresh tomatoes better than C. excelsaen_US
